"Chuck The Meds"

According to the 04/04/05 issue of US News and World Report... "A panel of experts last week warned that many women are being over-medicated for relatively mild menopause symptoms, some wrongly associated with the hormonal change instead of aging. Their advice: avoid meds–especially risky hormone replacement therapy."

Healthy Ways To Protect Your Heart

Here are 6 foods that, eaten regularly, could substantially reduce your risk of heart disease: 1. Almonds: One to two handfuls of almonds daily reduces LDL–the bad cholesterol by 5-10%. (University of Toronto study) 2. Fish: Four servings of fish per week can lower heart disease risk by an average of 14%. (Tulane University research) 3. Garlic: A daily dose of garlic (600-900 mg in capsule form or one fresh clove) can reduce total cholesterol levels by 17 points which leads to a 25% reduction in heart disease risk. (numerous studies) 4. Fruits and Vegetables: One pound of produce a day can cut your heart disease

risk by nearly 25%. Produce also contains dietary fiber which was found to cut heart disease risk by 40%. (Harvard University study) 5. Wine: While we have a hard time recommending alcohol, a daily glass of red wine can cut your odds of heart disease by 33%. However...this is one glass...too much wine may be worse for you than none at all. (Journal of Circulation) 6. Dark Chocolate: Just 1.6 ounces daily can reduce blood pressure. Again, just 1.6 ounces. (University of California-San Francisco) And, don’t forget exercise, a peaceful countenance and regular chiropractic care!

The Bottom Line

How simple it could be to make some minor and easy lifestyle changes to encourage heart health now instead of AFTER heart problems develop. Being pro-active allows you to evolve your health in a constructive direction instead of having to resolve health problems that may have been easy to avoid with the right lifestyle decisions. So, if you want to be healthier five years from now than you are today, consider making some lifestyle choices to grow your health.
