Health Tip

of the

In a study conducted at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine, cranberry juice helped relax blood vessels clogged with cholesterol and narrowed by atherosclerosis in pigs. This helps underline the value of fruits and vegetables in our diet which has recently been an area of intense research. Studies like this help us to understand the specific mechanisms by which the nutrients we consume can protect against heart disease.

Male Menopause?

For men who believe they are going through the proverbial midlife crisis, some doctors say you may actually be experiencing andropause, a male version of menopause. This condition is becoming more widely recognized and accepted due to the physical, chemical and emotional changes many middle-aged men experience. According to Australia's Monash University, here's what you can do to alleviate some of the symptoms of andropause:
Maintain a healthy diet, which includes a balanced amount of vegetables, fruits, meats, fish and diary products.
Engage in regular exercise, including aerobic, muscular, and flexibility activities.

Get regular health checkups. Regular health care visits and screenings can help prevent conditions such as heart problems, stroke, and cancer.
Check hormone levels as you get older. Generally between ages 40 and 55, a number of important hormone levels in a man's body begin to decline.
Reduce stress and worry. Stress is a major source of trouble for men at midlife. Exercise and relaxation help reduce stress, as does talking to your partners, friends, and family about your problems.
Get plenty of sleep.
And we suggest making sure your nervous system is as healthy as possible.

The Bottom Line

Isn’t it interesting that the drug industry has a pill form of answer for women that recent years have demonstrated is a dangerous approach? Isn’t it interesting that men are not yet being offered a pill solution but rather lifestyle recommendations? What will be next? Will the drug industry see a huge untapped market of :Baby Boomers" with this new, drug treatable problem or will women see the intelligent benefits of a healthy lifestyle over chemical dependency?
